Yelverton Golf Club
Veteran’s Section
Competitions – Rules and Regulations
1. Introduction
1.1 The purpose of this section is to list and describe the competitions normally staged by the Veteran’s Section and to outline the Rules and Regulations that apply to those Competitions. In any case of uncertainty the Captain will be the sole arbiter.
1.2. Trophies will be awarded at a Prize Giving ceremony during the annual Christmas meeting dinner and will be retained by the Committee for safe keeping in the Club Trophy cabinet. Trophies will not be permitted to be taken home by winners except in exceptional circumstances.
1.3. Following a decision at the 2016 AGM, ALL Veterans' Competitions will be played from the Yellow Tees.
2. Veteran’s Weekly Competition
2.1 The 1st Tee is reserved for the Veteran’s Section from 08:45 until 11:00 every Wednesday for a Veteran’s Competition.
2.2 The Competition on the first Wednesday in the months March to October will normally be an Individual Stableford Competition. It will be a qualifying round for the Jim Ball Trophy and a Handicap Qualifying Round; it will be played from the Yellow Tees and member’s Club Handicap will apply (see Constitution Annex A for handicap notes).
2.3 The Competition that will be played on all other Wednesdays will be decided by the Captain. He will announce the format of the day prior to the Draw for playing partners. Veterans’ Handicaps, as opposed to Club Handicaps, will apply for these Wednesday Roll-Up competitions. (See the Constitution, Annex B for the regulations covering Veterans’ Handicaps).
2.4 Members wishing to play in these competitions must meet in the Clubhouse Lounge and ensure that their Draw Number Token is placed in the Draw Bag before the Draw commences at 0830. Any member/s that for any reason misses the start of the Draw may still play but their Draw Token will be included at the end of the Draw.
2.5 The Yellow Tees of the Day will be used for these general competitions and members will play off their Veteran’s Handicaps (see Constitution Annex A for details).
2.6 The Sweepstake for the Veteran’s Weekly Competitions is £1 and a further 50 pence (20p for the 2’s Fund and a 30p contribution to the general fund to build up a small contingency). A countback will be used to differentiate between players with the same score.
2.7 The following arrangements will apply to accommodate ‘spare’ players:
a. 4 Ball Better Ball Competitions.
• A Pair and One Spare Player remain at the end of the Draw. A three-ball will be formed and the spare player will form a ‘virtual pair’ with player A for the first nine holes and a ‘virtual pair’ for the second nine holes with Player B. Meanwhile, Player A and Player B will represent another pair.
• Two Pairs and One Spare Player remain at the end of the Draw. The penultimate pairing will play as a 2-Ball Pair scoring the better ball and marking their own card. The final pair and one spare player will form Pairs as described above.
b. Teams of Three with Two Scores to Count.
• One Spare Player remains at the end of the Draw. A team of Four players will be formed, two scores will count on each hole but players will play off ¾ their Veteran’s handicaps.
• Two Spare Players remain at the end of the Draw. Two teams of Four players will be formed and will score/play as described above.
c. Teams of Three with One Score to Count
• One Spare Player remains at the end of the Draw. A team of Four players will be formed, one score to count but players will play off ½ their handicap.
• Two Spare Players remain at the end of the Draw. One player will join the penultimate group drawn to form a team of Four; the remaining player will join the final group drawn to form a team of Four. One score will count but players in both teams will play off ½ their handicap.
d. Texas Scramble (will be scored in Medal format)
- Teams of four to deduct 1/10th of the combined handicapsfrom the gross score for the round.
3. Veteran’s Section Hole in One Fund
3.1 All members may voluntarily subscribe to this fund; the Individual’s Subscription is £1. An individual will remain a member of the Fund in perpetuity unless they declare a wish to cease membership.
3.2 The Treasurer will have ‘stewardship’ of this Fund and enquire of all new members and existing members when paying their annual Vets Section subscription, whether they wish to be a member of the Hole in One Fund or not.
3.3 A member that has contributed to the current Fund that scores a Hole-in-One during a Veteran’s Day Competition staged on a Wednesday morning will receive the total amount held in that Fund at that time.
3.4 The total monies held in the current Fund will be shared by all the players that score a Hole-in-One in the same competition on the same day.
3.5 Holes in One scored on temporary greens will not qualify.
3.6 Holes in One scored in Friendly Matches or other competitions staged by the Section will not qualify.
3.7 When the Fund is claimed, the Treasurer will immediately, as a paper exercise, restore the Fund back to its original value by ring fencing money from the Veteran’s Section bank account. This can then be recovered by collecting a further £1 from all subscribing Fund members. Should the number of subscribing members be insufficient to restore the Fund back to its original size, or be in excess, the Treasurer will set a new value for the Fund; ensuring that the bank account is re-credited with the recovered contributions. It will remain a matter of the rub of the green as to the size of the Fund awarded to recipients as this will depend on the number of members subscribing.
4. Millennium Trophy
4.1 The Millennium Trophy was presented in 2000 by Mr Steve Sunter the Veteran’s Section Captain that year.
4.2 The Millennium Trophy will be awarded annually to the member that returns the best Stableford score in the May Individual Stapleford Competition. There is no additional prize other than the normal share out of sweepstake money as for a normal Wednesday Roll Up.
4.3 If circumstances should arise such that it is not possible for the competition to be played on the due date the Committee may reschedule the event.
4.4 In the event of a tie the winner shall be decided on count back; in the first instance based on the last nine holes, in the second instance based on last six holes, and so on using the last three holes, last two holes or the last hole.
4.5 Regulations:
