Diary Event

It has been a month since the lockdown restrictions were relaxed, which allowed us to get back to playing golf. Over that time we have had some glorious weather and I hope that you have had the opportunity to play and enjoy a few rounds.
I would like to thank Garry and his team for all of their hard work carried out in difficult conditions over the past few months. It’s particularly great to see the greens looking so lush and green, after such a long dry spell. Well done Garry and team!
The return to golf has been a busy time on the course with regular high demand for tee times. May I take this opportunity to thank members for their continued patience and support throughout this time. By acting responsibly and complying with the back-to-golf policy and health & hygiene procedures, you have allowed us all to play safely and enable the course to remain open for everyone’s enjoyment.
I think you will agree that the introduction of the tee-booking system with 10-minute intervals has had a positive effect on the pace of play and helped maintain social distancing on the course. The success of which has recently allowed us to open up the booking system to 3-ball groups. The Golf Committee is currently reviewing how well this is working, both with respect to ‘social distancing’ and also bunching on the course. The early signs are that this is working well, whilst a good pace of play is being maintained. It is the intention of the Golf Committee to allow members to be able to play in 4-ball groups from Monday 29th June – but 4-ball groups will only be able to tee off after 1pm each day.
I am delighted to confirm that the Pro Shop will be reopening from Monday 15th June and from Wednesday 17th June members will be able to invite guests to play. This needs to be booked through the Pro shop. The Pro Shop will be holding a Pro Shop Stableford (non-qualifier) over the weekend of 20th & 21st June. Details and procedures to follow shortly from Adam.
Many members have asked when competitions might be reintroduced. Please see the following advice received from Devon Golf this week:
“It is Devon Golf’s view that, in line with the recommendation of England Golf, only non-competition play is used at this time and that stroke play competitions involving players in different groups should still be avoided. However, should individual clubs decide to allow competitive stroke play, Devon Golf hereby confirms the following changes that are acceptable for Qualifying Scores during the current Covid-19 crisis. Clubs must put in place policies and procedure for the conduct of any competition that ensures the safety of their staff and members. This advice follows guidance advice from R&A, England Golf and CONGU on the use of temporary modified Rules of Golf”.
The Handicap & Competitions Committee are currently looking at producing a set of robust policies and procedures that will hopefully allow us to hold a qualifying mid-week Stableford on Tuesday 30th June. Further details to follow.
To summarise, the dates I have mentioned are as follows:
• Mon 15 June: Pro Shop re-opens.
• Wed 17 June: members will be able to invite guests to play. Book through Pro Shop.
• 20/21 June: Pro Shop Stableford (non-qualifier).
• Mon 29 June (to be confirmed): 4-ball groups allowed (after 1pm each day).
• Tue 30 June (to be confirmed): mid-week Stableford (qualifier)
Further announcements will be made nearer the time to let you know whether those last two dates are confirmed.
Finally, ‘play safe, stay safe’. As the numbers increase per tee time it is vital that everyone stays alert to the dangers of Covid 19. Please make sure you book in advance; maintain your social distancing at all times and follow the health & hygiene policy. This is especially true around the first tee area as it is the entrance and exit to the course. Please do not bunch in this area and keep it clear for easy access to the course and car park. You can help by only going to the first tee no more than 5 minutes before your time and also by leaving the Club promptly after you have played.
I hope this message finds you safe and well, enjoy your golf.
