Devon Ladies Captain

devon ladt capt18At the Devon County Ladies Golf AGM held at Exeter Golf Club on Friday 19th January, Mrs Christine Longden of Yelverton Golf Club took over as Devon County Ladies Captain.

The photograph shows Christine, on the left, receiving her Captain’s brooch from the outgoing Captain Mrs Angie Hickey.

Christine has been a very active member of Yelverton Ladies since joining the club in 1997. A keen player, she has made herself available for most of the Ladies Inter-County Club matches and has been a cheerful, encouraging presence throughout.

Over the years she has served on the Ladies Committee undertaking various roles such as Competition Secretary, Handicap Secretary and Ladies Secretary. Christine became Ladies Captain in 2006 and discharged her role with style.

Over the last year as County Vice Captain she has organised the matches of the Devon County Ladies Second Team, being responsible for the smooth running of its matches, team selection and coaching sessions. This year as County Captain Christine will work with the County Team Coach Tiffany MacKenzie and the County Team Manager Sally Charnock to run the matches of the County First Team. She will also officiate at the numerous County Matches and Events that the DCLGA organise throughout the County.

Christine is also a qualified referee’s assistant, having gained an England Golf refereeing certificate. She has been busy on that front refereeing many DCLGA Inter-Club Matches over the years.

In a packed room Christine was able to see a row of faces from her club, as many ladies had come to support her to witness her big moment and wish her well in her new role.
