Ladies Competition News

On Monday 4 September the Ladies section of Yelverton Golf Club held their Four Ball Better Ball Open competition in splendid weather.

The winners were Nicola Sandon and Alison Pollock from Saunton, with 41 points. The photo shows the winners with the Lady Captain, Sandy Hawkins, presenting their prizes. Runners up were Maggie Best and Irene Lowry from Bigbury, with 40 points.

The Joan Foster Trophy for the best Yelverton pair was won by Sue Rumbold and Teresa Holt with 37 points (below).

The Norton Rose Bowl was played for by those of our ladies who are over the age of 55. Kate Wright (see photo below right) continued her recent run of good form by winning the event.

The Ladies Guest Day at Yelverton was played in beautiful weather and the guests came from many clubs around Devon and beyond. The Lady Captain, Sandy Hawkins, had organised a wonderful buffet and prizes. The winners were Irene Palmer with her guest Wendy Phillips (from St Mellion). Second prize went to Mair Preston-Jones with her guest Chris Spyer (from China Fleet Club). Third prize was won by Annette Sweeney with her guest Wendy Smith (also from China Fleet Club).

Successes for Young Ladies

Recently there have been 2 notable successes for young ladies from Yelverton Golf Club. Caitlin Evans-Brand (below left) won the Welsh Girls Championships which were held at Bull Bay in Anglesey over 4 days in late July.

Meg Roussouw (below right) won the Yelverton Ladies Club Championships which consists of 36 holes in one day. Her score of 157 (nett 146) won both the scratch and handicap categories.

The Yelverton Ladies’ Section played a Stableford competition this week for the Dame Hannah RogersTrophy. The competition was won by Annie Hosken with a creditable score of 42 points. (See photograph below).

 The Phylis Eastlick Cup (a Stableford competiton) was won by Sue Rumbold (see photograph below).

The Devon County Killard Leavy Foursomes competition was won, after countback, by Christine Longden and Sue Pearman, who will go on to represent the club at Saunton Golf Club later in the season.
